There are two types of purchase that can be made on this site. The first is to buy individual issues of Horsemanship Journal. These are processed securely through Squarespace, in order to despatch your order you will need to provide your name and address. The payment is processed through Stripe, Stars Ablazin Media (owners of this site) do not see or store payment details.

Subscriptions are re-occurring payments in our case the annual subscription payment. We manage subscriptions through Chargeable, this allows us to manage your account and also allows you to manage your account online. Payments for annual subscriptions are also managed through Stripe.

Stripe has been audited by a PCI-certified auditor, and is certified to PCI Service Provider Level 1. This is the most stringent level of certification available.

Stripe forces HTTPS for all services, including our public website. We regularly audit the details of our implementation: the certificates we serve, the certificate authorities we use, and the ciphers we support. We use HSTS to ensure browsers interact with Stripe only over HTTPS. Stripe is also on the HSTS preloaded lists for both Chrome and Firefox.

For more about implementing SSL on your own website, read our SSL guide.

All card numbers are encrypted on disk with AES-256. Decryption keys are stored on separate machines. None of Stripe's internal servers and daemons are able to obtain plaintext card numbers; instead, they can just request that cards be sent to a service provider on a static whitelist. Stripe's infrastructure for storing, decrypting, and transmitting card numbers runs in separate hosting infrastructure, and doesn't share any credentials with Stripe's primary services (API, website, etc.).

All subscribers have the option to access the digital version of the magazine, we don't provide any personal data to Exact Editions, to validate that you have an active account we provide a unique key which we also provide to you the subscriber. You can then use that key to create your Exact Editions account and access the magazine.

There are three situations where more personally identifiable information is captured by us:

  • Send us a Contact-us form
  • Joining our Mailing List - hosted by Mailchimp

In both cases you are prompted to enter information about yourself including your name and email address.

Using one of the Contact Forms on our website is similar to sending us an email. These are processed through our hosting company, Squarespace.

We will NOT add your email address to our mailing list when you send us a message.

We use Mailchimp to host and manage our Mailing List. You can only be added by providing you email address in the 'add to mailing list' box.  Mailchimp will then send you an email for you to confirm that you do indeed want to added to the mailing list.

In every email we send you via Mailchimp, there is a link that allows you to change the types of email you receive or, if you wish, to unsubscribe completely.
